What People Are Saying:

I heard about this book from a friend, what peaked my interest in the book was that it was written by several authors, it is about their job experiences, both in the pursuit of a job and life after employment. I thought I had a fair understanding of the challenges of diversity in the workplace but this book opened my eyes a little wider. I was partictularly drawn to the chapter by Sharon Williams and how candid she was about her experiences with life in the Status Quo work environment. I would highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars whats the difference embracing diversity and inclusivity ByNorm B.

Sharon Williams conveys so much "in-your-face" truth through the telling of her own career experiences! She reveals how maintaining the status quo diminishes any effort for diversity in the corporate environment. I found especially insightful her revealing the "bearers of the status quo" as adults who have never emotionally graduated from elementary or high school, and still think in the realm of cliques. That truth is priceless! Kudos to Sharon! She is truly a "Warrior" for change in the fight for diversity and inclusivity!

In the Chapter, "Standard Bearers of the Status Quo", Sharon Williams uses a quote from Nicholo Machiavelli that opens up the chapter as a great introduction because it summarizes all that she reveals in the chapter. She really puts it in your face the issues that still plague corporations with regards to diversity. She reveals truth that I never thought of before as she explains the glossy facade put on by corporations to appear to be "down with diversity and inclusivity". Her experiences have allowed her to reveal the truth of what really goes on as far as corporations striving to maintain the status quo.

Format: Paperback The difference with this book is the level of collaboration that must have taken place to bring so many diverse professionals together to share their thoughts on life and the workplace. I am enjoying reading this book. It gives me hope for the diversity struggle that rages on in the workplace. I found it to be an interesting read that just might start some great conversations and bring people together at work. I thought Chapter 10, by Ms. Williams was a great and very intimate account of what goes on in the work setting. I thought that some of the chapters before that were interesting, as well. I think it was a brilliant concept to bring so many women together from some many different work experiences and have them share their thoughts with the world. I could identify with various parts of the book and that is what I needed most from a book reading, in these times -- to know I am not alone.
